Jim Brown started into martial arts in 1976, studying Kenpo Karate at a small school in Haverhill, MA, where he attained his black belt. He became a full time instructor at the school and was responsible for teaching both adult and children’s classes.

Sifu Yao Li As his martial arts interests progressed, he advandced his studies to Wah Lum Pi Tam Tui, northern praying mantis Kung Fu under the gold medal tutorage of Sifu Yao Li at the Boston Kung Fu academy, which was then overseen by Master Pui Chan.

In 1986 Jim received a certificate as an accomplished instructor by Sifu Yao Li and gave private instructions at the Boston school for several years and ran a private school in Haverhill, MA. He performed three times at the John Hancock auditorium with the Wah Lum performance troop along side classmates, Joshua Grant (Boston Kung Fu Tai Chi Institute) and gold medallist Richard Branden.


In 1997 Jim turned his studies to a strict combative art under the instruction of Paul Moller, defensive tactics instructor for the NH police academy. Mr. Moller had been trained in Jeet Kune Do by Master Dan Inosanto, Larry Hartsel l and Paul Vunak.
Coupled with this was Brazilian jujitsu, Kali knife fighting and both western and Muay Thai boxing.

Jim now gives instruction classical kung fu at Terry Dow’s martial arts academy in Manchester, NH.

He and his fighting partner, Pete McGlew, continue to do combative rounds at the school, and all are welcome to engage, however, formal instruction in these arts are not offered at this time.
